The Christmas Market Guide to Yorkshire.


Yorkshire holds a special place in our hearts. We visit quite a few times a year but visiting at Christmas is just a different experience altogether.

Here are my must visit Christmas Markets in Yorkshire 2018

8th – 11th Living North Yorkshire Christmas Fair‘Living North’s Christmas Fair brings you Yorkshire’s biggest and best shopping and social event of the season. We are thrilled to be hosting a treasure trove of the finest artisan food producers, designer-makers and retailers, giving you the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and family for a fabulous fun and festive day out, packed with seasonal inspiration.’ 9th – 22nd Leeds Christkindelmarkt German Christmas Market ‘On Friday 9 November, the annual Christkindelmarkt German Christmas Market will open its doors, transforming Millennium Square once again into a festive wonderland. The family-friendly market will be boasting over 40 traditionally decorated wooden chalet stalls featuring handcrafted toys, jewellery, festive decorations and authentic German delicacies, along with the ever-popular Christmas Carousel and other themed children’s rides.’ 15th – 18th Harrogate Christmas Market ‘Held on The Stray in the historic Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate town centre, this four-day festive market will be filled with high quality Yorkshire and Harrogate products. This year it is expected to have nearly 200 stalls selling everything from Yorkshire cheeses and chutneys to handmade gifts and Christmas decorations. Not forgetting Santa’s Grotto and real reindeer!’ 15th – 23rd (Dec) York St Nicholas Fair ‘Soak up the city’s medieval charm and scents of spiced mulled wine this season, as fairs, family fun and festival flavours transform York into a festive fairytale.Discover the delights of the iconic St Nicholas Fair, don some skates at the Ice Factor or spend a night in the stalls for playful panto fun. Immersed in tradition and bustling with activity, the historic streets of York come alive during the wonderful winter months. 15th – 24th (Dec) Sheffield Christmas Market ‘This market has grown from a handful of cabins on the main shopping area of Sheffield to an entire christmas experience of 50 cabins. Santa’s Grotto is at the heart of the event with the much loved Sleigh Bar and the traditional German Sausage grill.The Christmas cabins cover Fargte, Town Hall Square and Peace Gardens with fantastic Christmas gifts, and lots of seasonal food and drink.Santas Grotto guarantees a meeting with the big man himself with a photo opportunity and top quality gifts for every child.’ 16th – 17th Duncombe Park Christmas Fair ‘Wishing you all a wonderful time shopping for Christmas gifts for your family and friends whilst raising money to help fund the NSPCC’s vital work in safeguarding our children. Thanks to your continued generosity, this long established Christmas Fair has already raised over half a million pounds for the NSPCC.’ 16th – 31st (Dec) Halifax Christmas Market At The Piece Hall ‘Browse our handpicked stalls, enjoy a scrumptious bite, pop into our wonderful independent retailers and take the stress out of Christmas shopping. Soak up the magical seasonal atmosphere at The Piece Hall before retiring for a festive tipple at one of the cafes or bars. Cheers!’ 17th – 18th Danby Christmas Fair‘Celebrating the very best of local arts, craft makers and seasonal gifts, from jewellery, ceramics and textiles, to natural skincare, artisan gin, traditional fudge and handmade chocolates. Meet the makers and pick up a unique gift. There’s also a visit from Santa in his ‘winter woodland’ workshop, traditional music and children’s craft-making activities. When you need a rest from all the hustle and bustle, why not visit The Woolly Sheep café, and enjoy a mince pie or two to revive your spirits!’ 18th Ormesby Hall Festive Fair ‘Suppliers from across the region will be setting up stalls throughout the Ormesby Hall Marquee, and outside the front of the Hall showcasing their crafts, gifts, food and beverages for you to sample and purchase.Start your Christmas shopping, or finish it, in the gardens of this beautiful mansion house.’ 29th – 2nd (Dec) Harrogate country living magazine Christmas fair‘Meet hundreds of artisan designers and makers along with regional food producers, all under one roof. A lively programme of talks, demonstrations and hands-on work shops Lots of ideas on things to make, cakes to bake, talents to nurture and gifts to give in the Country Living Live Theatres. Find unique gifts for the whole family Indulge in the best of British flavours with tempting treats in the Country Living Kitchen. Enjoy a pit-stop at the many eateries or sip on something sparkly in the Drunken Duck Champagne Bar.’

1st/2nd- 8th/9th Grassington DIckensian Festival ‘Make a note in your diaries to visit Grassington’s legendary Dickensian Festival at the most magical time of the year – this Christmas.Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the picturesque village of Grassington is transported back to the time of Dickens, with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressed in Victorian costume.
