Gingerbread! How to make Christmas Gingerbread with a twist. Blogmas day 5

Gingerbread! Is without a doubt a big Christmas flavour in this house, don’t get me wrong we love to make Gingerbread people all through the year. Come Christmas, it is just extra special especially with my twist on the firm favourite amongst everyone.

When you think of Christmas and food you initially think of the traditionals such as.. Mince meat pies, Gingerbread houses, Turkey and the dreaded Sprout (which I love). However if you find a recipe you love but your wanting to try something new, how about adding some new flavours to your already loved recipe?

Here is how I make my Gorgeous Gingerbread People with a hint of Orange.

Ingredients

400g Plain Flour plus a little extra for rolling. 1 tsp Bicarbonate Powder 2 tsp Ground Ginger 3 tsp Ground Cinnamon 180g unsalted Butter at room temp 200g Light Soft Brown Sugar 2 Free Range Eggs 5 tbsp Golden Syrup 3 tsp of Orange flavouring or you can use the juice of an orange but the flavouring gives it a better taste.

Method

Sift in the Flour, Bicarb, Ginger & Cinnamon into a large bowl. Then add in the Butter and mix until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add in the sugar.

Beat together lightly the eggs and Golden Syrup and Orange flavouring, then add into your flour mix until it all comes together.

Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until its smooth. Wrap and place in the fridge to chill for around 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180c Get your trays and line them with greaseproof paper place to one side whilst you get your dough ready.

Roll out your dough until you get your prefered thickness, I usually do 0.5 or 0.6cm once you have your thickness, using a gingerbread cookie cutter start getting your troops ready. Make sure to leave a gap between them on the trays or they will end up joined together when cooked.

Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Leave to dry then you can decorate them.

Enjoy!
