Elemore Park Sunderland

Elemore Park is a fairly new park for Sunderland, it used to be a Golf Course when I was growing up and would visit an aunt that lived close to the site. Before the Golf course it was the Elemore Colliery.

It is now a haven for wildlife and such a lovely place to go for a walk. We visited today for a wander with Elliot and to take a peek in the now opened café and garden centre. Set in 135 acres sitting around the edge of Hetton Le Hole it is a great dog walking park with lots of open space but there's also so great play spaces for kids.

You can expect Grassland, woodland, scrub and ponds which are home to quite a few There's a mile loop and grassy pathways you can walk and Bridleways and cycle paths and the entrance to the Stephenson Trail that we did a few summers ago is in here too.

I do want to point out that on our visit (mid January) it was so muddy, so if you are planning on visiting within the next few weeks I would recommend wearing wellies and it is not currently suitable for wheel chairs and pushchairs due to the amount of mud on the pathways. During warmer months and dryer weather it will be accessible.

On site is a large car park, Garden centre, coffee shop and a wild play area/climbing frames. There's also different climbing activities (Trim Trail) dotted around the park. We did visit the garden centre but there's not much in terms of plants at the minute, however you can find some lovely items in the garden centre shop. There's a café which serves standard breakfast items, lunch, cakes, bakes and hot and cold drinks. We tried the cheese scone, Twix bake, Victoria sponge today and they were all delicious. There's lots of seating inside and out and they also do afternoon tea (pre book only), takeaway picnic lunches and Sunday lunch.
