Crochet and why I love crafting.

Crafting is something that I really love to do, it is one of the ways that I like to relax. My husband is always trying to keep me away from craft stores otherwise I will be in there all day HI HOBBYCRAFT! The first craft that I got into was sewing, I fell in love with my old singer sewing machine and then I was hooked. I started to experiment with different crafts and found a few that I really enjoyed, I stuck with them and crafting is something I try to do almost every day, I am planning on setting up a seperate room in the house or maybe even a little summer house in the garden that I can fill with crafty goodies for me and the boys. Crafting for me is my way of relaxing and getting rid of any negativity from my mind. The crafts I enjoy are

  1. Sewing

  2. Crochet

  3. Papercrafts

  4. Painting

  5. Drawing

  6. Polymer clay making

  7. Marbling

Out of all of the crafts I do my favourite right now is Crochet. I am fairly new at Crochet and I am still learning the craft. I like that it can be done literally anywhere. I have always been the kind of person that needs to be doing something even when I am trying to relax, crochet is perfect for me when I am trying to unwind as it’s not messy and you can make almost anything from crochet. I always have lots of yarn around (i’m a pom pom maker) so it’s a great way to use some of it up. What is crochet?Crochet is a process by which yarn or thread and a single hook of any size can be used to make fabric, lace, garments and toys. Crochet may also be used to make hats, bags and jewellery. A variety of textures, patterns and shapes can be created through varying tension, dropping and adding stitches, and wrapping the yarn around the hook during a stitch. There is no limit to the materials that can be used to crochet. Throughout history people from all over the world have used thread, wool, yarn, grass, rope, wire, silk; even dental floss and hair have been crocheted. It also feels so nice ! With Crochet you can add whatever colour you fancy and it will still look good, I am always drawn to purples and green. I always thought I wouldnt be able to do it as it looks way too complicated and the finished products always look so professional, with a little practice you too can make professional looking items.

One of things that I really really love are blankets and throws so one of my favourite things to make are blankets. I suffer from Raynaud’s so I am usually cold. I have a lot of blankets and throws but it just means so much more to snuggle under something you made. You can find lots of free patterns HERE or you can just go with the flow and create something totally amazing.

You can also find lots of videos online to learn how to Crochet.

Do you do any Crafting? What do you like to do ?
