The weather is starting to improve, which means we are coming out of our winter hibernation. I like to make a list of places we really want to visit in the UK for that year as I found it really stressful leaving it until the last minute and then you end up going somewhere no one really wanted to go in the first place!
So to make it a little bit easier for you, I have made a top list of 15 places you should visit with your family this year in Edinburgh.
You can't come to Edinburgh and not visit the castle. Beware it does get rather busy but don't let that put you off. Lots to see and do for all ages, be sure to check out the national war museum too (Not included in your castle tickets).
I highly recommend you go to Camera Obscura. It is absolutely fantastic. It will make you want more.
We love this place! We have been quite a few times and we never get bored. I can guarantee you never see everything in one day. Pretty nice cafe too.
We go to the zoo a few times a year, Summer is better as more animals are easily seen. We can easily spend 5 hours here but if you take your time and go to all of the talks you can spend longer here. The restaurant is really nice too.
A fantastic day to be spent in the gardens. Quite a lot to see and do, perfect for a nice summer stroll.
Looking for some quirky shops to splash some bucks in? You won't be disappointed with what is on offer on the Royal Mile. Some fantastic restaurants to discover too. Check out the side streets, I love some of the side street shops!
If you love history then you have to take a Mary Kings Close tour. It is just amazingly steeped in history. More appropriate for older children.( It can be a bit scary )
A working royal palace so please check for clousers. Some really pretty things to look at here. I always enjoy walking the grounds. The kids can fun trying on some costumes.
Just WOW! We are huge Science geeks in this house, so it is given that we love Dynamic Earth. I would definitely recommend this place if you have kids or just love Science.
Step aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia, Her Majesty The Queen’s former floating palace . Amazing history and it is just a great day out. The boys love it and I do too which is saying something because I hate boats!
Do you like a scare? You will also learn quite a lot too. The Actors are great and It is always thoroughly entertaining. I always leave with a smile on my face! Great for kids over 12.
A must visit if your kids love to learn about the past. I found it really interesting and the boys had fun too.
I really like our visits to Newhailes. I like to just wander around the grounds and enjoy a tour of the house too. They have recently added a new huge amazing play adventure zone called Weehailes and it is just perfect to let the kids blow off some steam.
Just over the bridge in Edinburgh. We were quite surprised actually after reading some bad reviews we decided to test it out ourselves. I thought it was ok and the boys enjoyed it.
I really love this castle, it does have really limited parking. However I suggest you go anyway. It has plenty to explore and has some fantastic views over Little France.
Have a fantastic visit to Edinburgh! Let me know where you go.
