It comes as no surprise that we love the beach. We have our favourites that we like to visit a lot. We are also very lucky to live right next to some amazing beaches. The boys love to build sandcastles, go rockpooling, seaglass hunting, skimming stones and looking for fossils. There is so much fun to be had.
Our top 10 Beautiful North East beaches
Seaham Hall Beach - A pretty well known beach for sea glass, we like to visit later in the day once the crowds have gone. Car parking is free, toilets available and a nice little cafe called Tonias you can get some Ice Cream from. Access is either by the steps leading down or the ramp.
Roker/Seaburn - Two gorgeous beaches, 5 minutes drive from us and just stunning. Plenty to do in the area including, Roker park which has a really great playpark, arcades, loads of local businesses offering delicious food and drinks, toilets and of course Ice cream. Plenty of parking too.
Bamburgh Beach - Gorgeous beach with Bamburgh castle overlooking. Fantastic beach for the kids to play on on. The sand is beautiful. Lots of places for parking and toilets available.
Druridge bay - So much space here at Druridge bay. Another beach we like to visit regularly, you will find some amazing shells here and the sand is just gorgeous. Beware of the Jelly fish though. Toilets and car parking available along with plenty of places for a picnic in the huge nature reserve.
Whitley Bay - Gorgeous beach, perfect for paddling and playing in the sand. Plenty of local businesses to support and you can grab an Ice Cream. Toilets and parking here.

Sandhaven , South Shields- Lovely beach, I always find it pretty quiet compared to some of the other beaches. Stop off at Ocean beach pleasure park for some fun rides and arcades. Lots of places to grab food and drinks and there's plenty of parking and toilets.
Redcar - Ok, this one is just over an hour, but well worth the extra 10 minutes. We love redcar and visit often (when allowed) the beach here is fantastic. It is long, very very sandy and there's lots of fish and chip shops to choose from. The arcades here are some of the boy's favourites. Toilets and parking available here.
Cheswick Sands - This is our chosen summer beach. When it is boiling hot we head to the coast. Cheswick is perfect if you want to avoid the crowds and just relax and have some good quality family fun. No toilets but there is a small car park.
Beadnell Bay- Another one of those quiet beaches perfect for relaxing. Absolutely beautiful beach. Low newton, at the south end of this long, beautiful stretch of sand. tends to be quieter but no toilets. Beadnell has toilets and parking. Also a bird sanctuary.
